~ last '09/first '10 getaway - Nha Trang (Part 1)

(continuation of my Vietnamese adventure)

Yeah! I know..A bit overdued but better late than never, right? *laughs* ..

Nha Trang, located on the South Central Coast of Vietnam was the site for Miss Universe 2008 Pageant and will be hosting the Miss World Pageant again this year, 2010. We were told that the bus ride from Saigon to Nha Trang will take about 8 hours or so. However, it took us 10 hours of bum-flattening/constant sleeping/pigging out on junk food/blarring of Vietnamese oldie's (em..not a big fan of oldie's thus, bit frustrating!) bus ride. Nevertheless, despite the long hours of bus ride, it was definitely worth going BUT I would truly recommend those who plan to visit Nha Trang, to commute by flight (costs about RM300; bus - USD 10-12, if i'm not mistaken).

* Healthy breakfast of sunny up's and baguette (luv 'em) *

* Our ride down south - pretty comfy, actually! *

After travelling for about 4 hours or so, we stopped for lunch. We were informed that the lunch spot was actually owned by the bus company. Oh well!! Food was quite alright actually. ^.^

* Our lunch spot *

* Rice and noodles - yums~ *

And much to our surprise, our second pit stop was actually located along the beach. Lovely!

* The seemingly popular fruit-stall (spot the gigantic guava and dragon-fruit!) *

* Quirky fruit - tastes like our MYS 'jambu' but looks like green apple. Eaten with the salt/chilli powder (satchet) *

* Crisps to satiate our junkie crave on the ever-long bus ride *

We hopped on our ride to Nha Trang at approximately 9am and guess what time we reached our destination.. 7pm (groans!!!). Alas!! We checked into our dodgy but clean, backpacker lodge (USD 24 per night, cheap huh?), and refreshed a bit before headed out for dinner. Hungryyy!! Our fellow locals, Bieu, Man and Mr S (N's Malaysian fren working in Saigon) took us to a popular Nha Trang restaurant, where they serve rice paper wraps, a similar version of our 'popiah'. Truly authentic and delicious. Thumbs up!! Love it!!!

* Our dodgy room =) *

* Visit (www.nemdangvanquyen.com.vn) for my info. *

* Dinner is not complete without Saigon BIA *

* Ingredients for Vietnamese wraps *

* Sauces and aromatics *

* Jelly pork paste *

* Vietnamese wrap roll - Nha Trang's speciality! *

Full and satiated, we strolled along the sidewalks of Nha Trang beach, enjoying the night breeze and absorbing the night scenery.

* After dark at Nha Trang beach *

* Check this out!! 'Hai Yen Hotel'..I guess the joke only applies to those who understand Cantonese!! Hoho.. *

More pics of the beach..

* Locals picnic-ing on the beach.. Yes! At night!! *

* Ain't he a cutey? Santa kiddo with a sunflower.. *

* Nha Trang's City Hall *

* Ciku drink ..weird but surprisingly delicious! *

Island tour the next day.. Woohoo!! Stay tuned to Nha Trang (Part 2) ...
